Excavating Contractors Registration Process

Effective May 1, 2007 all contractors wishing to excavate in the public way or on private property within the City of Chelsea must be registered with the Department of Public Works.

If you wish to apply, please follow the steps below.

  1. Fill out the application (All pages are required).
  2. Submit a Certificate of General Liability Insurance and Bond in the amount of $10,000.
  3. Apply annually by April 30th each year to keep your registration current.
  4. Applications can be submitted online at https://epay.cityhallsystems.com/selection.
  5. Pay the $100 yearly fee by credit card (online) or check (made payable to 'City of Chelsea')
  6. Have minimum of 3 municipal references.
The DPW will review applications within 10 business days and notify contractors of approval by email.
