Take the Orange or Green Line To Haymarket. Take the 111 bus, which goes across the Tobin Bridge. Once you cross the Bridge, you’re in Chelsea. Bellingham Square is the main stop in Chelsea, one block from the Chelsea Public Library and Chelsea City Hall, and about 10 to 15 minutes ride from Haymarket. If the driver is not calling out the stops, just ask him or her for Bellingham Square. Bus service is frequent. From Bellingham Square walk two blocks on Broadway past the gold-domed City Hall. The Public Library is the large Blond-Color-brick building on your RIGHT.
BY Commuter Rail:
Take the train from North Station to Chelsea. It’s the first stop on the Rockport/Newburyport line. The Chelsea station is about 3 blocks from the Public Library. Walk 6th Street, past the gold-domed City Hall and the fire station, to Broadway. The Public Library is the large Blond-Color-brick building on your LEFT, diagonally across from you on Broadway.
By Car:
On-street parking: after 6 p.m., meters are free and residential parking is not in effect.
From the South/Boston/Cambridge:
Take 93 N or Storrow Drive to the Tobin Bridge. Cross the Bridge, and stay in the right-hand lane. Take the first possible exit, marked “Beacon Street off-ramp" and “Chelsea Waterfront/East Boston.” Go to the bottom of the ramp and TURN RIGHT. This puts you on Beacon Street and less than one mile or 5 minutes from the Public Library, with this series of jogs through Chelsea’s commercial district: Go one block on Beacon and then TURN LEFT onto Broadway. Go one block to the traffic light, passing the Chelsea Court House on your left. Proceed straight ahead, taking the right lane around the town green and past the police station. (In this direction, Broadway becomes the one-way Park Street.) Stay two blocks, passing Bunker Hill Community College and the Bellingham Square T stop. At
the traffic light, follow the curve to the RIGHT, stay in the RIGHT lane and go two blocks. The Library is the large Blond-Color-brick building on your RIGHT.
From the West (From the Northwest take 93 S to Route 16):
Take route 16 through Everett in the direction of the airport and Revere. After you pass the Stop and Shop and the Chelsea High School on your right, you head up a slight hill on Rt.16. TURN RIGHT at the next traffic light onto Washington Avenue (McDonald’s is on the left.) Follow Washington Avenue to the bottom of the hill, where there is a 5-way intersection and flashing traffic light. Go straight through the intersection (the street name changes to Cary Ave.) and proceed 3 blocks farther to Broadway. TURN RIGHT. Go 3 blocks while looking for on-street parking. The Chelsea Public Library is the large Blond-Color-brick building on your LEFT, on the block before the gold-domed City Hall.
From the Northeast:
Take Route 1 South to Route 16 West, toward Everett/Somerville. Drive to the 2nd traffic light, and TURN LEFT onto Washington Avenue (McDonald’s is on the right). Follow Washington Avenue to the bottom of the hill, where there is a 5-way intersection and flashing traffic. Go straight through the intersection (the street name changes to Cary Ave.) and proceed 3 blocks further to Broadway. TURN RIGHT. Go 3 blocks while looking for on-street parking. The Chelsea Public Library is the large Blond-Color-brick building on your LEFT, on the block before the gold-domed City Hall.
