Captain Kenneth MacDonald

Captain MacDonald is a Chelsea native and a 1966 graduate of Chelsea High School. Captain MacDonald was appointed to the Chelsea Police Department in 1974 right before graduating from the Boston Police Academy in June of 1975. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1984, Lieutenant in 1987, and Captain in 1992. Prior to joining the police department, Captain MacDonald was employed as a licensed embalmer and assistant funeral director for a local funeral home.


Captain MacDonald has been an active member of the Chelsea Police Department for thirty-four years and holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. Captain MacDonald has been a Superior Officer for twenty-three years and the department’s senior ranking police officer for fifteen years. Captain MacDonald has commanded the Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Special Operations Divisions and currently serves as the Professional Standards Division Commander. Captain MacDonald has also served as the Acting Chief of Police on numerous occasions. Captain MacDonald has been married for forty years; has three children and three grand children.
