Captain Edward Martin
Born and raised in Chelsea, Captain Martin joined the Department on January 10th of 1983. After graduating from the academy he was assigned to the night shift in the Patrol Division where he worked until September of 1987.
In January of 1987 Captain Martin was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he continued his work in the Patrol Division.
Captain Martin was promoted to Lieutenant in February of 1993. After his promotion he was assigned as the Watch Commander of one of the two night Platoons. In a reorganization of the Department the city was split into two command sections of which he was assigned as the North District Commander.
In 2001 he was assigned to head up the newly formed traffic unit and continued in that position until 2004.
On March 22, 2004 he was promoted to Captain and assigned the duties of Commander of the Patrol Division.
A 2007 restructuring of the Department by Chief Kyes resulted in his reassignment to the Commander of the Community Service Division.
Captain Martin is a Chelsea High graduate and has attained a BS in Law Enforcement from Western New England Collage.
His law enforcement associations include the Mass Chiefs of Police, the International Chief of Police, Mass. Police Association, and The Irish American Law Enforcement Officers.
