Captain David Batchelor
Captain Batchelor was appointed to the Chelsea police department on October 20th 1986. The first eleven years he served as a patrol officer assigned to each of the three shifts and also as a motorcycle officer. During his time in patrol he also served the department as a state certified crime prevention officer.
In November of 1997 Captain Batchelor was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and worked as a patrol supervisor for five years. During his time as a patrol supervisor he was named supervisor of the year in 1999. Also during his tenure as a sergeant, he served as the president of the Chelsea Superior Officers Union.
In February of 2002 Captain Batchelor was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. While a lieutenant he served as a shift commander for both night and day shifts. In 2004 he was transferred from the uniform patrol division to the special operations unit as the commander of gangs, school officers, and juvenile programs. During this time the gang unit received the All City of Chelsea award by the Chelsea city counsel.
In November of 2007 Captain Batchelor was promoted to his current rank and is the commander of the patrol division which consists of twelve supervisors and approximately forty patrol officers.
Captain Batchelor holds a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Western New England College and masters degree from Anna Maria College.
