Chelsea Police Arrest Three in Armed Assault in a Marlboro Street Home
Chief Brian A. Kyes announced today that two Chelsea Police Officers actions averted a possible tragedy Saturday evening June 19th after confronting armed assailants in a Marlboro Street home. Their actions led to the arrests of three armed men and the seizing of a large amount of “Crack Cocaine”. At 10:24 PM multiple Chelsea Police units were dispatched to 41 Marlboro Street for a report of a Burglary in progress. Officers Joseph Capistran and Felix Rivera arrived on the scene first and proceeded into the multi-family dwelling where they encountered a female bleeding and in distress. She told the officers that she was attacked by three armed men still in the third floor apartment and that others were still being held against their will. Both officers without hesitation entered the apartment and encountered two armed men
threatening two male victims. One male was holding a crowbar and threatening a male victim on the ground and the second suspect was holding a black revolver firearm in his hand. Officer Rivera, upon noticing the firearm, ordered the subject to drop the gun. He was then joined by Officer Capistran who also ordered the male to drop the gun. The male, who had the gun, then faced the officers with the gun “cocked” and ready to fire. Finally, after a final warning from both officers the subject dropped the gun.
At this time, other Chelsea Officers arrived and secured the subjects with the firearm and crow bar plus a third suspect, who was identified by the victims as the third attacker. All were placed under arrest. After interviewing the victims, it appears that the suspects entered the apartment with the intent to steal drugs. As a result of this information, a large amount of Crack Cocaine was recovered in the apartment. The firearm recovered in the attack was later traced by officers back to a 1997 theft reported to the Philadelphia Police Department. The alleged victims face possible drug charges as the investigation moves forward.
Chief Kyes praised the officer’s calmness, restraint and professionalism in facing a possible lethal confrontation. He added “This is another example of excellent police work involving officers putting themselves at risk for our community”
The following individuals were arrested and face multiple charges including; Armed Assault in a Dwelling, Kidnapping, Illegal Carrying of a firearm and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
1. Earnest Smith DOB 05/21/1958 of Revere 2. Michael Kelly DOB 04/26/1982 of Lynn 3. Rolando Gala 04/21/1982 of Boston
