Chelsea Police Officer Struck by Vehicle in Stable Condition

        
       Chelsea- 3:00 PM - A 30 year old, eight year veteran of the Chelsea Police Department was injured while working a road detail today on Eastern Avenue.  The Officer, whose name is not being released was transported and treated for his non-life threatening injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

        An investigation is currently underway by the Chelsea Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit. A preliminary examination of facts indicates the operator of the vehicle, while navigating a traffic detour at Eastern Ave near the Chelsea Street Bridge lost control of the vehicle striking the officer. A witness reports that the Officer was in the road and signaling for the vehicle to slow down when struck and thrown ten to fifteen feet in the air landing face down on the roadway.

        A thirty two year old East Boston female operator of the 2000 Mazda mini-van was cited by officers for civil infractions. The investigation of this incident is on-going
