Police Investigating Two Shooting Incidents
Chelsea— Chelsea Police are investigating two shootings that occurred this evening; at 4:18 PM, Chelsea officers responded to 911 calls for reported gunshots fired in front of 12 Essex Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a male victim lying on the sidewalk suffering from two gunshot wounds. The victim is reported in stable condition at Massachusetts General Hospital. Witness’s reported seeing three males flee the area after the shooting. State Police Detectives assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office are assisting in the on- going investigation. Police are not releasing the name of the
victim at this time.
At 6:34PM, Chelsea officers responded to 111 Springvale Ave on a report of an elderly male with a firearm threatening a female. First arriving officers were told by the 73 year old female victim that she was attacked by William A. Perella, age 80. The Victim told police she has had a longtime live-in relationship with Perella who attacked her for no apparent reason and then brandished a firearm. The victim stated during the attack she struggled with Perella who was able to fire two rounds from a revolver. The victim was able to wrestle the gun away and flee to a neighbor’s house where they called police. Officers arrested Perella while he attempted to enter the neighbor’s house without incident. Perella who faces a multitude of assault and firearm charges was transported to the Massachusetts General Hospital to be medically
evaluated.
