Police Warn Residents of Thefts from Vehicles and Introduce the “Stow it Don’t Show it Campaign”
Chelsea— The Chelsea Police are warning residents and visitors of the increase in thefts from motor vehicles reported in the area. In an effort to raise awareness, the police department has introduced a new media campaign called “Stow it Don’t Show It”. The police department will be distributing pamphlets and posters to local businesses and will post the information on Chelsea Community Television, the Chelsea Police website at chelseapolice.com and the MyPD Smartphone Application. The message is simple but important; “stow your belongings”. Take extra precautions to avoid criminal window shopping inside your car. Thieves will seize the opportunity to enter vehicles if valuables are in plain view or if you leave your vehicle unlocked.
The brochure will provide tips on securing your vehicle properly, proper storage of valuables and advice while shopping. Examples highlighted are, never leave documents with personal information inside your vehicle and never attempt to cover valuables on the floor with a blanket or clothing. Always remove important documents and valuables from your vehicle. If you are unable to take valuables with you, always stow these items in your trunk to lessen your chance of making your vehicle a target. Remember thefts from vehicles can be prevented. Don’t become a victim.
Chelsea residents are reminded they can provide information anonymously to the Police Department by calling the 24 hr Crime Stoppers TIP line at 617-466-4880 or texting the word Chelsea and then their message to tip411 (847411) from their cell phone. Anonymous web tips can also be submitted right from the Police Departments website at www.chelseapolice.com or by downloading the free MyPD application available for Iphone and Android Smartphone’s.
