Off –Duty Chelsea Police Officer Arrests Bank Robbery Suspect
On Monday April 28, 2008, at approximately 1:00 PM Chelsea Police Lieutenant Golden Tyre while off duty observed a suspicious female run in-front of his vehicle causing him to slam on his brakes in the area of Broadway and Fourth Street. With over 25 years of law-enforcement experience the behavior of the female alerted the Lieutenant to continue to examine the female’s movements. The woman who was wearing a red baseball cap with her hair tucked under it appeared to be concealing something under her outer garments. This suspicious behavior prompted a call to police headquarters where he received information that a female fitting the description had just robbed the Chelsea Provident Bank at 360 Broadway. Lt Tyre while unarmed continued to monitor the female’s movements. The suspect was later identified as Laura Demedico age 26
of Boston. Lt. Tyre observed her enter the foyer of 9-11 Fourth Street. With the assistance of responding Chelsea Police Officers, officers entered the building where they placed the suspect in custody without incident. In close proximity were the outer garments and evidence including money taken from the robbery. Captain Keith Houghton stated “the suspect had the misfortune of having one of Chelsea’s most seasoned police officers in the area being vigilant and observant” he added “Lt Tyre has always had the uncanny ability to uncover suspicious and criminal behavior long before other police officers can make the connection”. The suspect, Ms. Laura Demedico, was charged with armed robbery and was arraigned today in Chelsea District Court. |
