Quick response from Chelsea firefighters on Easter Sunday, April 25, 2011, prevented a fire from spreading at 162 Chestnut St.
Chelsea firefighters responded to 162 Chestnut St at 1:30 PM for a reported fire on the third floor. First arriving crews encountered heavy smoke as they entered the building and quickly located the fire in the third floor hallway. While the crews from Engine 2 and Engine 1 worked to extinguish the fire, Tower Ladder 1’s crew searched the 3rd floor and located 1 trapped occupant. The occupant was removed from the building and treated by EMS on scene.
10 adults and 7 children were displaced from the fire. The American Red Cross responded and found temporary housing for the occupants.
The cause of this fire remains under investigation by the Chelsea Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
