Here are instructions for recycling the following items: Paper, Containers, Yard Waste, Christmas Trees, White Goods & CRTs, Mercury Devices, Propane Tanks, Rechargeable Batteries, Paint, Motor Oil,
and Hazardous Waste.

Paper
Newspapers/inserts Magazines, phone books, junk mail, paper bags, white or colored office paper, envelopes (windows ok) Manila envelopes & folders, NCR & fax paper Paperboard (cereal, shoe boxes, etc.) Corrugated cardboard
How To Prepare |
Do Not Include |
Place items in a separate bin or in a paper bag
Flatten corrugated cardboard and cut down to 3ft by 3ft. Place neatly next to recycling bin
Staples and paper clips ok |
No Plastic Bags
No soiled paper
No carbon/ waxed paper
No trash (tissues, food wrappings, etc.)
No wax-coated cups, ice-cream cartons, or take-out food containers

Place all items together in a recycling bin

Purchase Sticker for $20.00 per item at City Hall Customer Service & Collections Department, Rm. 213 and be placed on the list for pickup on the day of trash pickup. Place sticker on each item to be collected. Remove all doors
Place on sidewalk off of property before 7:00 AM on day of trash pickup. |

Bring items (except bulbs) to City Hall room 100 or during City Hall hours
Thermometers will be exchanged for a free digital thermometer.
Special collection at Chelsea City Yard 380 Beacham St. will be announced. Bring any fluorescent bulbs as well as other mercury items
Thermostats and button batteries may be brought to City Hall, Room 100 for disposal ONLY Look for Notice of Collection |

Propane Tanks

New NFPA regulations require that all propane tanks must have new safety equipment.
Chelsea does not currently have a propane tank collection, these items can be brought to various locations for disposal:
The point of purchase for a new propane tank such as Home Depot will often take the old tank for little to no cost.

Chelsea does not currently have a hazardous waste collection, please bring all items to:
Clean Harbors in Braintree, call (781) 849-1800 for information to schedule a pickup
or
Products can be brought to the Minuteman Facility in Lexington, but must pay a fee for disposal. Contact the Lexington Board of Health at (781) 862-0500, Ext. 237 for more information. |
