To the People of Chelsea:
The “All-America City” Award is presented to those communities who best exemplify grassroots problem solving through partnerships and collaborations between members of the community’s civic partners: city government, the business community, the non-profit sector, community groups and individual residents.
The Award is granted by the well-respected National Civic League (NCL). Chris Gates, President of NCL, said that cities chosen for the 1998 All-America City Award represent the success that can be achieved when communities join together and cooperatively work to tackle a variety of challenges. Perhaps no comment can better explain that which is occurring in Chelsea today.
Across our community, organizations and individuals are dedicating themselves to champion causes like public safety, education, neighborhood improvement, economic development, open space enhancement, recreational opportunities and human service needs. I am quite sure these very efforts are why Chelsea rose to the forefront of national attention to become an “All-America City”.
As I communicated during the “State of the City” presentation earlier this year, the City fully embraces the enfranchisement of its citizenry. We live in a vibrant and alive community, one whose diversity and tolerance adds great strength to our every action. From every corner of this land, it is clear to one and all that local stakeholders are and will continue to be the main reason why Chelsea is such a great place and getting better.
Becoming an All-America City should demonstrate to us all that no hurdle is too high to overcome, no problem too difficult to solve. However, while the entire country has recognized us for our achievement, we can be proud, but we must never be satisfied. Therefore, the City and its civic partners must further collaborate to keep the momentum rolling forward. I know I speak on behalf of all of Chelsea when I say we will be equal to that challenge.
Chelsea Pride is certainly back and here to stay. Congratulations Chelsea!!!
Very truly yours,
Jay Ash
City Manager
