Traffic Advisory

Street Closures & One Way Traffic. As of May 6, 2024 at 08:12 a.m., the CPD reports the following road closure updates: 
  • Watts Street closed Lynn St to Highland St
  • Cary Ave @ Spencer Ave 
  • Willow (1 Lane) from Central Ave to Bellingham St 
  • Central Ave From Willow St To Highland St

Traffic Advisories & Parking Restrictions (as of 5/6/2024)

  • Upper Broadway Drainage and Surface Project: The sidewalk and roadway rehabilitation for the Upper Broadway corridor is underway. The project area extends down Broadway from Marlborough Street through Clinton Street to the Chelsea-Revere border; projected completion date is April 2025. Construction hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.

    Week 5/6- 5/10
    Begin road base for southbound lane (Crescent Ave to Parker St)

    -City Hall Ave to Crescent Ave
    The contractor is resetting curbstone on the northbound side of Broadway this week and will pour those sidewalks next Monday/ Tuesday.
     
    -Crescent Ave to Parker St 
    Northbound side is paved and southbound side is currently being graded. They plan to pave northbound next Tuesday, then move to the next section.

  • Willow Street / Watts Street / Central Avenue Utility, Road, and Traffic Improvements: On Monday, April 22, the City's contractor, Aqua Line Utility, will begin utility work at the intersection of Central Avenue and Eastern Avenue. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Utility and surface reconstruction will continue through May and June at Central Avenue, Willow Street, and Watts Street intersections and approaches.
     
    Road detours and traffic delays are expected.

  • Daytime Lane Closures on Tobin Bridge on Route 1 Southbound: 

    The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is implementing a single-lane closure on the Tobin Bridge on Route 1, southbound on the upper deck. The closure occurs weekly, Monday through Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Two lanes of traffic will always remain open during the single-lane closures. These closures will be coordinated with other construction projects in the area.

  • Stuctural Cleaning & Painting, Steel & Concrete Repairs on Tobin Bridge: MassDOT has been working in the area for the past several months and vacuuming up paint chips that have fallen from the bridge. The paint chip cleanup is being followed by a $100 million-plus project to repair steel, remove old paint, and repaint the bridge among other improvements.   • National Grid Downtown Broadway Gas Main Installation: National Grid is working on Broadway between Cross St and Williams St. Construction takes place Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.   • National Grid Highland St/Watts St Gas Main Installation: National Grid is working on Highland St between Maverick St and Watts St, as well as Watts St from Highland St to Willow St. Construction takes place Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.   • E911 Building renovation: The construction work on the E911 Building is set to start next week. There will be a significant construction impact, particularly with parking in the City Hall lot. Construction is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2024.
